Remixing the Moai for the Digital Age
The ancient Moai of Easter Island have been remixed by award-winning designer Scott Eaton for this year’s London Design Festival. Inspired by the serene, eternal vigilance of the monolithic icons of Easter Island, we’ve upgraded them for a tongue-in-cheek poke at the persistent distraction of modern digital life.
“I love the ancient Moai for their universality, simplicity of design, and their unwavering gaze,“ says Scott, who is present at the Truman Brewery as part of the Tent London, “you see people around the world with their eyes permanently fixed on their smartphone or tablet. In this piece I wanted to combine the ancient forms of the Moai with modern commentary and styling”. The head and hands of the Moai charge the iPad and iPhone, merging form with function.
The Moai joins Eaton’s Hercules XIII tablet stand and Venus of Cupertino iPad docking station in the pantheon of classical icons modernised for the digital age.
